The alarming red background of this image highlights the use of gold metals in the image.

The pieces of the image came in three parts. I wanted to make the pointed gold piece to look as if it could be hammered into the top of the watch the viewer catching the moment before it is smashed.

The idea of culture constantly ebbing and flowing according to the changes in attitudes and society. Time ticks along accordingly and things are always changing. Ideas are ready to be broken and dismantled.

The viewer is asked to think about what they understand of culture and how long it takes for things to change?

About Asante and Her Art

Recurring themes in Sarah Asante's art include reflections on societal constructs, emotional depth, and the interplay between materiality and perception. Each piece invites the viewer to interpret its narrative, whether rooted in modern aesthetics, historical influences, or symbolic contrasts between bold and subtle elements.
